About: A guesthouse in Thy National Park on Denmark's wild northwest coast, in the surf town known as Cold Hawaii, where the local studio Hahn Lavsen turned an early-1900s fisherman's cottage into a modern two-storey house.

Where: Pont-Aven · Finistère
About: A family house above the Aven river in southern Finistère, Brittany, rebuilt by its owners, the architects Elodie Dumas and Augustin Decaux of the studio Wunder. The Decaux family has come here for five generations, and the couple turned it into a modern house that still feels lived-in: an open kitchen and living room, a small room by the fire, an indoor pool with a counter-current, a sauna, and a big terrace that catches the sun.

About: Two identical concrete houses on a hillside above Selca, on the island of Brač, designed by the young architect Toni Trutanić as a modern break from the island's traditional stone-and-green-shutter style. Bare concrete walls and floor-to-ceiling windows fill the rooms with light and frame the sea and the Dalmatian islands beyond, while old sculptures, some over three hundred years old, tie the houses back to the island's history.
